We celebrate open communion by intinction on the first Sunday of each month, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday. Children are welcome and there are no age or membership restrictions. Here are a few words from two of our members about communion at the Congregational Church in Deerfield.
"I love the sacrament of communion. To me communion is the celebration of the bond and promises made between God and me. It's recognition and forgiveness, but it is also my commitment to try harder to be a better person. Communion at our church is very personal and very special. Each person is received individually by the Pastor. It's a wonderful moment and usually, I cry. I don't think I am alone in feeling the power of this ancient ritual. Occasionally, I have been seated so that I could see the faces of others receiving communion. Judging by their expressions, all are deeply touched." - Sarah L.
"The communion service at our church is always a special time for me. The service contains aspects which are both communal and shared as well as deeply personal and intimate. The story of Jesus' last meal with his friends is lovingly retold and each person goes forward to receive the Bread of Life and the Cup of Blessing from the pastor, being addressed by name. For me, it embodies the Scripture, 'Wherever two or more are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.'" - Don Sh.
